The Roosevelt Connection – By Scott Malawski

I have lived most of my life growing up in the town of Oyster Bay, New York and had an appreciation for Theodore Roosevelt since I was a kid.
I first traveled to Sagamore Hill, the home of Theodore Roosevelt, for elementary school field trips and carried on the tradition of visiting regularly in my adult life
until I moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 1999.

In 1998, I began collecting antique phonographs and early recordings. I soon realized the connection between my boyhood hero to the phonograph hobby.
Roosevelt made several historical recordings for both Victor & Edison and it was my mission to collect them. Besides the recordings,
I also collected a variety of other Roosevelt artifacts including, photographs and several signed books to form the basis of my collection.

In 2003, I purchased a collection of 44 photographs of Roosevelt on the 1900 Presidential campaign tour from the online auction site eBay.
I felt these photographs were important enough to be published. I believe the public should see these photos, as they don’t do justice tucked away in a dark box.
My collection has been reproduced and is entirely composed of original, previously unpublished photographs of then New York Governor Theodore Roosevelt
campaigning in Michigan, South Dakota, North Dakota, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.

My publication is for sale in a nicely packaged CD for use on a computer. It is menu driven and contains not only the publication, but also all the known Roosevelt
voice recordings from the Edison & Victor companies from 1912, all four Berliner Gramophone recordings from 1898 of Chief Trumpeter Cassi playing the bugle calls
from the Spanish-American War, and the privately recorded Boys Progressive League speech from 1913. There are also 16 film clips spanning Roosevelt’s life
from the period of 1903 until his death in 1919.
